Anita has been practicing yoga half of her life. She began practicing Ashtanga yoga in Berlin for several years where she also encountered the Iyengar Yoga method. She is an Iyengar yoga practitioner for 10 years teaching for 5 years. She has traveled to Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute in Pune, India to stay close to the traditional teachings of Iyengar yoga through the Iyengar family. She has studied primarily with Senior teacher Barbara Queirolo in Amsterdam.

The explorative and yet uplifting aspects of Iyengar yoga inspired her teaching style, which sets one’s heart to an experience of the whole body through feeling, observing, sensing and surrendering. “To feel the breath, we should first feel the muscles and other systems that act together to integrate life, practice is then staying alert to our emotions while every part of us comes together, that’s spiritual!”

In a class she strives to look for accessible ways all bodies and ages can understand with clarity the approach towards each asana, creating softness in the mind and precision in the posture. “I enjoy demonstrating and guiding a class as a way to create a language that inspires us to look for embodiment in space while softening the mind”.

How did you discover yoga?
Went to a Raja class in 2001; It was a disaster, but 1 year later I was back at it.

What have you given up that still tempts you?
Nothing. Everything that I gave up is not tempting.
