ASHTANGA 1% THEORY                                             2 HR     ALL LEVEL   $40 

Sri. K. Pattabhi Jois, the guru of Ashtanga yoga and a scholar of Sanskrit and Yoga, said yoga is "99% practice... 1% theory." Despite his education, he understood that the true transformative power of yoga is in the practice and not in the philosophy. As a long time student, I know that for whatever energy you put in to your practice, the practice will return to you exponentially.

So, we begin with practicE. throughout the course of this 2 hour workshop, we will DISCUSS THE THEORY THAT SUPPORTS THIS PRACTICE. This workshop will focus on the Fundamentals, the What, and PERHAPS equally important then, the How.

Despite the debates, confusions, and misconceptions that Ashtanga is "too hard" or only for the"young" and "athletic", the practice of Ashtanga Yoga is literally for every body.  Guruji said, “Ashtanga yoga is for all people: old people, young people, fat people, skinny people...the only people who cannot practice are lazy people." WHAT MANY OF US MISS IS THAT THE PRACTICE IS MEANT TO BE LEARNED AND DIGESTED SLOWLY OVER A LONG PERIOD OF TIME.  SO RATHER THAN JUMPING INTO PRIMARY SERIES WITH TWO FEET, AS MANY OF US OFTEN DO, WE WILL EXPLORE THE PRACTICE, ONE TOE IN AT A TIME, IN FOUR PARTS, WITH PATIENCE AND PERSERVERANCE.

This workshop is for everyone and anyone who has ever had the thought, the inclination, OR the desIire to try Ashtanga yoga or yoga in general. It is for those who have not yet begun, and for those who have practiced many years. All are welcome. 

 

 

JUMPING, LIFTING, FLOATING, FLYING                               2 HR   $40 

THIS WORKSHOP IS MEANT TO EXPLORE WAYS TO REFINE A Regular/SEASONED PRACTITIONER’S SKILLS IN YOGA. DAYLENE WILL DESCRIBE THE MAIN OBSTACLES OR “HIDDEN LOCKS” THAT PREVENT STUDENTS FROM EXPERIENCING THE LIGHTNESS, GRACE AND STRENGTH OF A MASTER. WE WILL WORK ON VARIOUS TECHNIQUES FOR JUMP THROUGHS AND JUMP BACKS, HEADTSANDS, FOREARM STANDS, AND HANDSTANDS, AND MORE. THIS WILL BE A FUN, LIGHT-HEARTED CLASS WITH LOTS OF ROOM FOR EXPLORATION, HANDS-ON ADJUSTMENTS, AND QUESTIONS.

 

INCREDIBLE BACKBENDS                                                        2 HOUR      ALL LEVELS  $40

BACKBENDS ARE PERHAPS THE MOST IMPORTANT POSTURES TO COUNTER THE STRESSES AND ACTIVITIES OF MODERN LIFE. THEY ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT AND OFTEN THE MOST DAUNTING.  WHEN LEARNING AND PRACTICING PRIMARY SERIES, A PRACTICE OF MAINLY FORWARD BENDS AND TWISTS, IT CAN SEEM LIKE A CRUEL JOKE TO THEN ONTOP OFF AN ALREADY CHALLENGING PRACTICE END WITH A ROUND OF BACKWARD BENDING. BACKBENDS CAN FEEL EXHAUSTING AND IMPOSSIBLE WHEN WE FIRST LEARN THEM. WE WILL EXPLORE THE POSTURES IN PRIMARY SERIES THAT WILL LEAD TO THE MOST PLEASANT BACKBENDING EXPERIENCE POSSIBLE.

IN THIS WORKSHOP, WE WILL EXPLORE WAYS TO WORK WITH BACKBENDS THAT WILL FOCUS ON HOW TO BUILD OPENESS IN THE FRONT SIDE OF THE BODY, OPEN YOUR HIIPS AND SHOULDERS AND INSPIRE OVERALL STRENGTH, MAKING THE COMMON SORE BACK A THING OF THE PAST. WE WILL LOOK AT SOME ALIGNMENT PRINCIPLES AND PRACTICES THAT CAN FOREVER TAKE THE PAINFUL AND UNCOMFORTABLE ASSOCIATIONS WITH THE LOWER BACK AND TRANSFORM THEM INTO THE EXILLERATING EXPERIENCE THEY CAN BE. THOUGH STRENGTH IS NOT OFTEN ASSOCIATED WITH DEEP BACKBENDS, AND MORE FLEXIBLILITY IS EMPHASIZED, YOU WILL WALK AWAY WITH A NEW UNDERSTANDING OF THE IMPORTANT ROLE STRENGTH PLAYS IN YOUR BACKBENDS AND OVER-ALL HEALTH OF YOUR SPINE. COMPOUND THAT WITH GOOD FORM AND YOU WILL GAIN SOME NEW INSIGHTS INTO THE POWER OF DEEP BACKBENDS. PRACTICES AND A DEMONSTRATION WILL BE INCLUDED TO GUIDE YOU TO EVENTUALLY STAND AND DROP BACK FROM URDHVA DHANURASANA ON YOUR OWN.

Day Christensen began her yoga practice in 2004 after receiving her BFA from the University of Illinois at Chicago. During her college years as a fine artist, a lifelong interest in yogic philosophy began to surface. She incorporated the study of yoga with her academic pursuits. Though the reading of sacred and historical texts proved to be interesting, it was lacking one major aspect: experience. With many signs pointing her in the direction of yoga, she took up the practice and began to gain the experience she was missing from study alone. 

Asana required a different type of strength and mobility that she had not bargained for as a former athlete. Despite the frustration and challenges she often met on the beginning path of yoga, she continued and found a renewed sense of vitality and clarity.

It was in 2005 that Day met Kino MacGregor in Chicago, and the experience connected her to the profound beauty and intelligence of the Ashtanga Vinyasa system. Today Day is an enthusiastic student of Ashtanga Yoga, practicing in lineage of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, having completed the Intermediate series and learning the Third series under Kino’s guidance.

Day’s teachings are born from her own disciplined and dedicated practice. She encourages students to challenge themselves physically, while, at the same time, be easy mentally. She is thrilled to share what she has learned with a new group of students in Miami and on Miami Beach. 

 



 

Reservation/Cancellation/Refund Policy for Events & Workshops (held at studio)

You must pre-pay in full to reserve your spot; reservations will not be taken without payment.

Cancellations will be accepted up to 14 days cartoon porn prior to the workshop for a full refund less 10%.  No refunds or credits after that --with the following exception-- the event sells out and we can fill your spot, in which case you will receive the amount you paid less 20%.

Wondering why we don't give full refunds closer to the date?
Simple. If we stop selling spots, in order to hold your place, and then you don't attend,  that is lost income because we have turned away another attendee in order to honor our commitment to you. Our presenters have costs and minimums that we must cover in order to host them  and those expenses are bullt into the pricing and attendance level of each event.
If you are traveling to be with us, please carefully consider booking refundable flights and hotel rooms, as we do not cover those in the event you cannot come, or the very, very rare event that the presenter cancels an event.
