Yin Yoga Class with Joe Barnett
This is a guided 90 minute class.
In this Yin class, we settle into a posture for 3-7 minutes and slowly relax our muscles to allow the deeper drier tissues–the connective tissues that wrap our muscles and make up our joint capsules–to be safely and therapeutically stretched, stimulated and strengthened. The alignment rules of the postures are also simple, but more importantly they are functional and organic: We listen to our bodies and lead ourselves into the shape that follows the natural contours of our spine, pelvis and hips. However, bringing ourselves into this simplicity can be quite challenging. The practice of being still and quiet for minutes at a time can be trying enough, let alone while dropping into a powerful stretch that moves across wide sheets of fascia and drops deep into the ligaments of the joints. And listening to our bodies to find the natural alignment of the pose requires a power of discrimination, and an understanding and familiarity with the ever-changing sensations in the body.
All levels. There is something for everyone. $20

Yin Yoga Training and Acro Yoga with Joe Barnett
For Teachers, LMT's, Therapists, as well as students who want to know more. All are welcome.
In this 4 session training, we will analyze, observe and practice the various elements of Yin Yoga in depth. We will examine ourselves on a personal level with ancient meditation techniques that guide us into a steady awareness of the changing sensations in the postures. We will study with slides of real bones and by articulating the joints on a plastic skeleton. We will also engage in a hands-on study of eachother with anatomical range of motion (ROM) tests. The study culminates in a truer understanding of the the infinite variety of human bodies (from the bones up), and the experience of truly settling into our unique asana. Some of the aspects covered:
Saturday, March 16
A quick study of the Yin Twists to understand why we do it. A brief exploration of skeletal variations on fake bones and real bones (yours) to know how we execute it. Followed by a full Yin practice highlighting Therapeutic Torsion to experience the release of the spine and the detox of the crudest to the subtlest, internal self. $55
A Taoist Analysis, a Yin Practice: Hips
The Yin aspect is a flying massage, a therapeutic passive flight through poses with names like Sleeping Bat and Folded Leaf.
The workshop will begin with the Yin and gradually move toward the Yang. With proper training, we become sensitive to the give and take of our partner's efforts until the two become one synergistic unit. Consciously blending the aspects of Yin and Yang the AcroYogi learns to trust and be trusted, to play and surrender.
You'll train to play three essential roles: Base, Flyer and Spotter:
* The Flyer (the moved) uses her core and steady gaze to be light and easeful in her movements. Learn the techniques of dynamic trust to integrate the power of the Base with your core, and dramatic flight patterns become nearly effortless.
* The Spotter (the hero) takes her turn to ensure safety. She stays with and watches over the Flyer at every moment’s lift, twist, turn, spin and landing. Every AcroYogi must first and foremost be a Spotter; learn the focus, stance and steps to support and protect the Base-Flyer dynamic. Only when we trust that someone will catch us when we fall, can we fearlessly leap into new experiences that may have seemed out of reach before.
All day Sunday for $100 (Friday night sessions and Sunday Acro not included)
Add Acro Sunday to either full day for just $40.
Best Pricing: Full two days(5 workshops) plus 2 Friday night classes is $275.
Joe Barnett, ERYT-500, home-based loosely between Cincinnati, OH and Tucson, AZ, has been teaching for over a decade. He travels nationally and internationally year round offering presentations and trainings on Yin and Yang (Vinyasa) forms of Yoga as well as Chakra and Meridian Meditation.Joe's main focus of study is Functional Anatomy for Yoga. He is a senior student and primary teaching assistant of Paul Grilley (paulgrilley.com), a true Yoga Scientist who is responsible for the current rise in the popularity of Yin Yoga. After several years of apprenticing under Paul, Joe began traveling nationally and internationally to train yoga teachers how to understand and feel the full range of motion of their joints and their students' joints using Grilley's Taoist Analysis of the Skeleton.
However, Joe's play time is usually spent practicing, teaching and drawing others into AcroYoga which he has been playing since 2006 when he met Jason Magness (yogaslackers.com) with whom he continues to train/play whenever he can. In 2010, Joe traveled to Montreal to receive both levels of certification through the original AcroYogis Eugene Poku and Jessie Goldberg (acroyoga.com).
